where i've been and where i'm going

ten years ago where were you?
i was in atlanta spending new years with my friends! we were seniors in high school and ready to move out of our parents homes and start college. i had already been accepted to the fantastic university of oklahoma (boomer!), i was working as a hostess (and hating it!), getting ready to move into a new house with my parents, and ready to start my new life in oklahoma as a college girl.

with that being said where will i be in 2010? what kind of resolutions do i have? i only have a few actually and they are as follows.
  1. to spend 15 minutes an evening cleaning up whatever mess i have made in my apt
  2. to take forrest for walks most evenings
  3. to blog more it's very freeing
  4. to get my grading done on time
  5. to say thank you more
that's if for now. what are your resolutions? where were you ten years ago?

my family has always had some type of animal 99.9% of the time it's at least one dog. there was one time my dad got a cat but he didn't survive with the family long as my mom and i were super allergic to him!

i am very happy to say that i am about to become the proud mommy of forrest! he's a Dachshund / Miniature Pinscher / Mixed (short coat) and he's precious! i get to pick up forrest martin luther king jr weekend and i can't wait.

tuesday's to-do's!

so i feel like i should share my to-do list with yall while i'm on vacation. i love to-do lists! i love lists in general there is something so wonderful about crossing items off. they say to destress that your to-do list's shouldn't be super long but i don't think that should matter. i make my to-do list a weekly thing instead of a daily thing so now on tuesday's we will have the tuesday to-do's.
1. finally grade the stack of papers i brought home!
2. pick up my fabulous boyfriend in clt!
3. have lunch with an old work friend
4. finish one of my many books i brought home to read
5. proof a friend's personal statement for law school
6. start my lesson plans for next semester so i can FINALLY be on the ball
7. manicure/pedicure i need a little me time!
8. meet my hopefully new dog
9. catch up on some movies at the movie theatre
10. enjoy my time at home with my family.

i'm sure i could add more or even take away a few things but those are my plans for the week. i can't wait to show david my hometown. i also can't wait to get better! once again i have caught a cold that won't go away. all i can say is that this time next year i better not have gotten as sick as i did this year! being a first year teacher sucks for those with a poor immune system to begin with. oops! too bad i love my job!

Classroom ramblings

so the other day a student asked if he could get a drink of water before the bell rang, I said sure because it was 2 minutes before the bell was going to ring. said student never came back, the sad part it took me a good 15 minutes to realize he was gone because he's in ISS so much!

two days later same student asked if he could use the restroom my response was brilliant i think "if you think you're leaving my class again think again buddy!" i find myself funny and hopefully you will too.

i also was speaking with a student about if they were learning anything because i feel like i haven't taught anything important all year and his response was that they weren't speaking slang as much. i figured i'll take what i can get plus i haven't heard ain't as much in my classroom the past few weeks. i have heard that ain't is in the dictionary and i told them not in mine so it's not in theirs.

Odds & Ends

The past few months have been pretty amazing, yes there have been some trials and tribulations but some amazing things have come from them. After all this time last year I was living at home with my parents, unemployed, graduate student in the middle/finishing up finals with no job security in sight.

Now I am living on my own, (fantastic apartment!), have an amazing job, have an amazing boyfriend (yes I will be that girl!) and instead of taking the finals I can now give them. I didn't give a final on Friday but I probably should have. Why you might think? There was a fight in my second period class. Considering it's only the second one of the school year I feel like I'm doing an okay job with classroom management. I do teach middle school after all.

I am writing this from home in good ole South Carolina and while it's colder here than in Oklahoma it's very nice to be home. I left in such a rush this past August that I feel like I didn't get to say a proper good-bye to my hometown. I am home for winter break and because my daddy is having surgery on Monday. I don't care what your religious beliefs are but please pray for my daddy on Monday. I am a daddy's little girl through and through and am a teensy bit freaked out but what will be going on Monday. It doesn't help that my brubba won't be here but he was told not to come, and I will be with Mom and Grams all afternoon at the hospital. I am not sure that will make me calm. Did I mention I have really really bad anxiety and my medication is somewhere between Atlanta and Greenville because Delta lost my bag?

I am a very nervous person (too much time with the jewish grandma) and well I'm one of the millions of people who are medicated for anxiety. Does it work? Somewhat I don't freak out as much, I don't cry as much, I don't pace as much, and new people don't freak me out as much. Which is odd considering I love talking to strangers but the internal pep talk I have to give myself is a little much.

I will post more tomorrow but I owe my seven blog followers a post and since I can't sleep there is no time like the present.

Winterbreak countdown 2 days!

I'm writing this post as I run out the door to school! Due to recent security updates I can no longer blog during my lesson planning. RUDE! :) I have been searching online for a blog designer to redo my blog for a few months and the other night I found one. Jamie has been AMAZING! She wasn't to expensive (remember teacher's salary!) and well to sound like a total cheeseball she just got me. She got exactly what I wanted and what I was aiming for.

Thank you Jamie!!!

I will post more either later today or tomorrow I promise!

Belated Thanks

I have had my dream job for the past few months and I LOVE it. I have always wanted to be a teacher and while it took me almost ten years to do it I have never been happier. I teach middle school and while most people would call me crazy (myself included) it's been an amazing four months.

I am also thankful for my brand new car. While I loved loved the tank my new car is AWESOME. It's a 2010 Toyota Corolla and super cute. A few years ago my brother received his masters from the University of Miami and received a new car with new car smell. My daddy told me that if I received a masters I too could have a brand new car with new car smell. Well hello masters and hello new car. Thanks mom and dad!!!!

I am thankful for my six readers who put up with my not so often posts!
